March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in the Lehigh Valley. Allentown Colon and Rectal make it a mission to promote awareness. The Lehigh Valley office does this by:
a) providing information to the community regarding this prevalent disease;
b) promoting awareness of ourselves and our roles with regard to colorectal cancer screening, prevention and treatment.

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb, 62, died on Sunday after a harrowing battle with colon cancer that began in 2010 and spread to his liver. Robin’s twin brother Maurice succumbed to the same disease in 2004.

Typically colon cancer, or colorectal cancer, presents no early warning signs. As in Robin’s case, many patients aren’t diagnosed until the disease spreads to other organs. What makes the six-time Grammy winner’s death especially tragic is that colon cancer develops slowly and is largely preventable with regular screening.
